Development of a User Experience Quality Measurement Model for E-Learning Systems (EUXQ Model)

01 / Research problem

Evaluation of e-learning has largely relied on technology-acceptance models (TAM, UTAUT) and service-quality models (SERVQUAL). These focus on adoption, ease of use, and service quality, but they do not comprehensively measure the quality of user experience in digital learning. Existing e-learning models also tend to separate system quality, user experience, and learning outcomes, leaving a gap for an integrated UX measurement model.

02 / Research question

  1. Which factors shape the quality of user experience in e-learning systems?
  2. How can the constructs and indicators of the EUXQ Model be developed and operationalised?
  3. Does the developed model validate as an evaluation tool for e-learning systems in higher education?

03 / Methodology

A quantitative model-development study in five stages:

  1. Literature study of TAM, UTAUT, the DeLone and McLean IS Success Model, SERVQUAL, and the User Experience Honeycomb.
  2. A conceptual model integrating system quality, learning interaction, user engagement, emotional experience, learning value, and user satisfaction.
  3. Instrument development: a five-point Likert questionnaire mapped to the constructs and checked through expert judgment.
  4. Data collection through an online questionnaire from active student users of e-learning, selected by purposive sampling.
  5. Analysis and validation with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), covering construct validity, reliability, measurement model, and structural model tests, followed by model refinement.

04 / Findings and contribution

[IN PROGRESS: This study is in progress. Findings will be reported after data collection and SEM analysis.] Expected outputs are the EUXQ Model itself, a validated instrument for measuring user experience quality in e-learning, and a peer-reviewed publication.

05 / Reflection and future research

The work sits within Human-Computer Interaction and enterprise information systems research. It connects interface and interaction design to learning outcomes, and it informs the doctoral direction by testing how UX quality can be modelled and measured in digital learning environments.
